Visitors see objects of different mediums such as jewelry, textiles, baskets, photographs, prints, paintings, and murals to archaeological objects. The bulk of their 2,000-plus collection consists of pottery in all its various forms, both contemporary and historic. The collection boasts objects from renowned potters and artists and much of the collection is on view in a permanent exhibit.
Improve Group and IPCC started talking about five years ago concerning two main issues IPCC had:

1) First, like many museums, IPCC had 20% of their collection out for view and 80% in storage.
2) IPCC was storing their invaluable collection on wooden shelving in a bank type vault with curved walls. They had very little room or flexibility. This gave them far less storage than a museum of comparable size.

Improve Group started talking to the collection manager and they took a look at what systems they could put into the same space that would give them more capacity. IG worked with the manager and put in a SpaceSaver that provided various types of storage from art racks to general shelving storage for pottery. IG’s approach to better “storage and access” not only replaced the wood shelving but customized a system that was ideal for the museum’s collection environment.

IG then went a step further. Instead of just designing immediate improvement of better storage and access, IG and IPCC worked together to create a master plan for growth in the future. Portions of the system have gone in overtime as funds have been available. The first section being five years ago, and the next section just recently, also based on their original design.
IG increased IPCC’s ability to preserve and protect their collection and customized a system that gave them more capacity by double all within the original space. They then helped them to strategically plan the best way to grow into the future. The collection is now safer and that creates a daily “piece of mind” for the client.
