Holloman BEAR Base Warehouses & Yards

When you can’t go out, go up: increasing mission readiness through storage modernization.

Holloman AFB’s BEAR Base unit’s mission is to have the capacity to deploy “anytime, anywhere, at a moment’s notice.” Deploying quickly like this requires all necessary materials and equipment to be kitted and ready to go at all times, which is only possible when the assets are well-organized, inventoried, and not exposed to harsh heat and cold. BEAR Base was committed to sustaining mission readiness but needed to create more storage space within its existing facilities.

Location:

Alamogordo, New Mexico

Facility Size:

49,392 SQ FT (Interior Warehouse Space)

At the start of this effort, all the unit’s assets were being stored either outside (exposed to harmful UV rays and other weather damage) or single-stacked within its facility. Utilizing these existing spaces, BEAR Base was able to increase cubic volume by going up – mobilizing its vertical space in both areas. With a new racking system, warehouse space was doubled and is now capable of storing 1,008 high-density units within the 49,000 SQ FT space.

When the unit is not deploying, it’s focused on inventory, which now -- thanks to an organized racking system -- is more efficient and effective, ensuring equipment is utilized before expiration and organized for rapid deployment.
