68th Rescue Squadron Facility Expansion

Expanding Training Spaces to Increase Rescue Readiness

The 68th Rescue Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base faced a critical challenge: rapid personnel growth. With 50–60 additional operators projected to arrive, the existing facility was already maxed out. Training spaces, conference rooms, and instructor collaboration areas were stretched thin. Storage was also a major issue, as each operator required secure cage space for gear.

Initial ideas included expanding the existing cage farm or building a mezzanine system within the physical therapy area. But as the team evaluated those options, it became clear they wouldn’t meet the demand. The unit needed a bigger solution, fast.

Purpose-Built for Mission Success

Improve Group proposed an innovative prefabricated modular building, designed to be installed quickly and adapted for the squadron’s unique needs.  A modular approach delivered the needed flexibility: durable, functional space that could be easily reconfigured for future needs.

The result was a two-story facility outfitted with 50 secure storage cages upstairs and a range of mission-critical spaces downstairs. The lower level features conference rooms, offices, meeting spaces, and a human performance Office—all built with modular systems. Nearly 90% of the interior consists of modular wall systems, giving the squadron both functionality and future adaptability.

The new facility has become one of the most dynamic spaces at Davis-Monthan, enabling the 68th Rescue Squadron to train more effectively, collaborate more efficiently, and securely house operator gear. Its modular design ensures the space can continue to evolve with the squadron’s needs.

Part of a Larger Mission Readiness Hub

Beyond the 68th’s facility, Improve Group has supported multiple units across Davis-Monthan, including the 48th, 306th, and others—building gyms, human performance offices, and specialized training environments. Together, these projects form a connected ecosystem for mission readiness, making Davis-Monthan a nucleus of Air Force rescue training and operations.
